Stillness for the soul. Movement for the body.

Yoga is my daily act of defiance.

It’s where I make such audacious claims as to have the right to decide who I am in this world and who I will become. No, my practice does not involve angry declarations or fist pumping. From the outside my practice appears quiet. Concentrated. Controlled. Peaceful.

But, inside…. Inside.

Inside, I am coming face to face with all my own baggage. Inside, I am insolently shedding the labels and expectations that others have crowned me with over the years. Inside, I am rebelling against a world that is constantly trying to shape me into what it wants me to be.

And, yes. As I practice, my physical body grows stronger. But, we all know that true power doesn’t come from physical strength. True power comes from within.

This is the gift yoga lays at my feet each and every day. The chance to root myself to the earth, connect with the source of who I am, and claim my own freedom.

For me, yoga is no small thing.

Sharing this practice with others is also no small thing.

Delle Terra is the direct result of remaining true to my own yoga practice and having the courage to share more of who I am with others.

Since quitting my job to be a full-time yoga instructor three years ago, much of my personal practice has centered around the Root Chakra (also called Muladhara). Located at the base of the spine, this chakra is the foundation on which we build our life. It is, quite literally, our roots into the earth.

Having spent much of my life feeling ungrounded and directionless, the focused practice of directing my energy towards the earth has been a revelation. Thus, the name Delle Terra, Italian for of the earth.

Also, Italy. Italy!

If my soul belongs to a culture, it’s surely Italian. Having lived in Italy for a while in my early 20’s, I’ve been itching to return. On a whim, I reached out to the owner of an agriturismo in Tuscany and asked if she’d ever thought of hosting a yoga retreat. As fate would have it, finding someone to lead a yoga retreat on the property was an actual item on her to-do list.

And so, Delle Terra was born.

Through group classes, private in-house sessions, and retreats in some of the world’s most spectacular locations, Delle Terra is about providing the space for each of us to connect to the source of our who we are and the freedom to choose who we will become.

As I said, it’s no small thing.

My approach to yoga is movement rooted in mindfulness. This translates into a holistic focus on building physical, emotional, and spiritual strength, recognizing that each of these areas of self are deeply interconnected.

Through this mindful practice we can change the shape of our brain and the neural pathways that connect in it. When we take action to change and shape our bodies, we can rewrite our story!

Do I want to live from a space of peace, kindness, compassion, self-love, and truth, or remain trapped in fear and disillusion? Do I choose physical and emotional health or am I willing to live with the consequences of neglecting my own self-care? This is my choice.

It is your choice too.

But, if we want to live a life of health and well-being, we must be willing to do the work.

Join me in making the choice to do the work today and every day.
